Online/Phone Technical Support.

What’s the deal with online/phone technical support? You call in or log in, and are required to turn over all of your identifying details – birthday, social security number (grrrr), phone number (even if you’re calling them from your phone – even if you’re calling them from the phone they provide you), credit card number, account number, your first name, your last name, your mother’s maiden name, address.. it goes on and on.

After this forced submittal to informational rape you are told to wait a few more seconds while they “access” your information. Now they have it all, right?

Wrong. These goof-balls always immediately ask again, “to whom am I speaking?” and “can I have your account number?”

I just gave that to you.  Where does the information go? Is it possible that the companies represented as two and three-letter codes in the middle of the NY Times Business Section are really this inept?

Here is what I suggest: perhaps you ask for an account number and last name. All that other stuff is attached to the account already – I know it is because you successfully bill me at home and charge my credit card every month. You companies are smarter than that, for the love of god, act like it!

All I’m saying is, you’re really doing a great job of pissing This Guy off. So, cut it out.
